Up in the north-west you can find someone a few miles away; across the rural south and east, the drives get longer. Somewhere central such as Ashford, about nine miles from the dead centre of the county, saves either of you the long haul.

Cathedral city, seaside resort or the Medway towns
Canterbury makes an easy first-date city. Its cathedral, founded in 598, is the metropolitan cathedral of the United Kingdom, and a wander round it gives you something to talk about before a drink. For sea air, Margate is the resort on the north-east coast, and Dover and Folkestone are the ports facing France; for somewhere closer to London, the Medway towns are three places in one.
Kent is also one of the warmest parts of Britain. On 10 August 2003 the hamlet of Brogdale, near Faversham, reached 38.5°C, at the time the highest temperature ever officially recorded in the UK, and it's still the hottest August day on record, so a summer evening outside is a fair plan.
