Cumbria Hookups: Cumbria Women Want to Meet

Hookups for adults across Cumbria, from Carlisle and the Lakes to the Furness coast.

Cumbrian hookups, in the Lakes and well beyond

Around 47 million visitors come to Cumbria every year, and some 15.8 million of them head into the Lake District. Fewer than 50,000 people actually live there.

Most of those who do are in a few places:

  • Ambleside
  • Bowness-on-Windermere
  • Coniston
  • Gosforth
  • Grasmere
  • Keswick
  • Windermere

That leaves more than 460,000 Cumbrians living outside the national park: in the city of Carlisle up in the north, in Workington and Whitehaven on the west coast, in Barrow-in-Furness on the south coast, and in Penrith and Kendal to the east. Between them rise the fells, with Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain at 978 metres, and Windermere, its longest and largest lake. With mountains filling the middle, a hookup from one side of the county to the other takes some planning.

From a town-centre drink to a Michelin dinner

For a first meeting, a town centre is the simple choice: Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith or Barrow, somewhere public with people about and an easy way home. The University of Cumbria opened in 2007, and big employers bring people in, from BAE Systems in Barrow, with around 14,500 staff, to Sellafield, with about 10,000.

If it goes well, Cumbria makes a second date easy to plan. It has more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other UK county, seven in the 2021 guide, and the local food gives you something to talk about: Cumberland sausage, which has protected status, Herdwick mutton and salt-marsh lamb from the Cartmel Peninsula.

First meetings belong somewhere with other people around. Let a mate know your plans, and stick to messaging on the site until you'd happily hand over your number. Our hookup safety tips cover the rest.

Women make up a third of members around Cumbria

Women make up about a third of our members in and around Cumbria, more than the three in ten across the whole site. By age there are two clusters. About four in ten are 18 to 24 and roughly a fifth are 25 to 34, yet one in five is 45 to 54, a bigger share than that group has across the UK, with about one in eight aged 35 to 44 and only around one in twenty-five past 55.

They come from Barrow-in-Furness and Harraby, from Lancaster, Clitheroe and Burnley, and from Newcastle upon Tyne, Jesmond and Durham, so set your distance to match how far you're willing to travel.

What to know before a Cumbrian hookup

Can I find a hookup in the Lake District?

You can, but the locals are few: fewer than 50,000 people live in the national park, against millions of visitors a year. Keswick and Windermere both have pages of their own, and the towns to the east, Kendal and Penrith, are worth including in your distance.

How far apart are Cumbria's towns?

Cumbria is mostly mountainous, so plan the route rather than going by the map alone. From the centre, Penrith is about six and a half miles away, Kendal about 18, and Carlisle and Cockermouth about 22, while Barrow is down on the south coast. Agree on a meeting point before anyone sets off.
