Poole Hookups: Poole Women Want to Meet

Harbour walks, Blue Flag beaches and no-strings fun for adults in Poole.

Hook up by the harbour where ships once left for Normandy

The settlement is older than the Iron Age, but Poole's name only turns up in the 12th century, when the town began to emerge as an important port on the back of the wool trade. Later its ships traded with North America, and in the 1700s it counted among the busiest ports in Britain. In the Second World War it was one of the main places the Normandy landings set out from.

Today Poole is a tourist resort, drawing visitors with its large natural harbour, its Blue Flag beaches and the Lighthouse arts centre. It is home to roughly 143,000 people, the second-largest town in Dorset.

It also runs straight into Bournemouth on its eastern side, and with Christchurch the three form a conurbation of around 400,000 people. For a hookup that makes "Poole" a loose term. A match who says it could live round the corner or at the far end of the built-up stretch, and either way they're within reach.

Poole's crowd is grown-up: nearly two in three are 25 to 44

Across the 40 miles around Poole the 25 to 34s edge it at about a third, with the 35 to 44s a whisker behind on three in ten. The under-25s are only about one in eight, well below their share across the whole site, and members aged 45 or over come to a little under a quarter. Roughly three in ten are women.

A 40-mile circle is a generous one, so the people in it come from Bournemouth and Ringwood, from Southampton and Eastleigh, from Portsmouth and from Yeovil. If you are in your late twenties or thirties you are right in the middle of it.

Meet by the water, then take it from there

Poole makes a first meeting easy. The harbour and the beaches give you somewhere public to walk and talk, and an evening at the Lighthouse suits anyone who would rather sit side by side than face to face on the first go.

If your match lives in Bournemouth or Christchurch you share one built-up area, so the question is less how far than where. Name the stretch of waterfront or the arts centre you are heading for, tell a friend, sort your own lift home, and leave yourself an easy exit if the spark isn't there.

Bournemouth begins where Poole ends

Bournemouth is under five miles from the centre and carries straight on from Poole's edge, so a match there barely counts as travelling. Wareham is under six miles away and Swanage about seven and a half, with Christchurch, Ringwood and Blandford Forum all within about thirteen miles, and Dorchester 21 miles to the west if a match there looks worth the drive.

Planning a first meeting around Poole Harbour

Does Poole count as Bournemouth on here?

Close enough for matching. The two run into each other, and with Christchurch they make a conurbation of around 400,000 people. Put whichever town is nearer to home on your profile and the suggestions you get each day will follow.

Do members come from Southampton and Portsmouth?

Yes. Both appear among the home towns of members within 40 miles of Poole, along with Eastleigh, Ringwood and Yeovil. That's a wide circle, so check the distance before you agree a date, and if a match is far off, meeting somewhere in between is only fair.

Is Dorchester too far for an evening out?

It's about 21 miles west of Poole, a proper drive rather than a hop, so it suits a planned night more than a spur-of-the-moment drink. Wareham and Swanage are the easier options at under six and about seven and a half miles.
