Dyfed hookups across three counties and two coasts

The name Dyfed is older than the Mabinogion. It comes from the Demetae, the Iron Age tribe who lived here, and it is tied to the Welsh word for sheep, a hint at how long this has been farming country.

As a county, Dyfed ran from 1974 to 1996 with its council in Carmarthen, and the name lives on in Dyfed-Powys Police. It's mostly rural, with a long coastline: the Irish Sea to the west and the Bristol Channel to the south. In practice it's three counties:

Carmarthenshire
The south-east, mostly hilly apart from the river valleys and the coastal strip. Carmarthen is here, along with Llanelli, Kidwelly and Llandovery.
Ceredigion
The north: a narrow coastal strip, with the Cambrian Mountains over much of the east. Plynlimon, at 752 metres, is the high point, and five rivers rise on its slopes, the Severn and the Wye among them. Aberystwyth, Borth and Llanrhystud all have pages of their own.
Pembrokeshire
The western end, with Tenby, Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Kilgetty, Crymych and Clarbeston Road among the places with pages here.

Early twenties or around forty: Dyfed's two crowds

Our members in and around Dyfed bunch at two ages. Two bands tie for first place, the under-25s and those aged 35 to 44, with three in ten apiece, while the 25 to 34s, who make up the largest group across the UK site, come to only about one in seven here. The over-45s split evenly, about one in eight aged 45 to 54 and about one in eight 55 or over. Women make up three in ten.

They come from Carmarthen and Aberystwyth, and from Swansea, Cardiff, Barry, Caerphilly, Treforest and Marshfield, so be ready for some of your matches to be a fair drive away.

Carmarthen in the middle, the sea on two sides

Carmarthen makes the natural meeting point. It's the nearest town with a page to the middle of the old county, about seven miles from it, and it's where Dyfed's council sat. From the same middle point, Kidwelly is under 14 miles away, Llanelli and Llandovery 16 or 17, Crymych about 21, and for a bigger night out, Swansea is under 23.

Out of town, the coast and the hills can carry a second date. The Teifi forms part of the border between Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, and the uplands fill much of Ceredigion's east. Keep the first meeting public and simple; our hookup safety tips take it from there.

Which counties make up Dyfed?

Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Dyfed ran them as one county from 1974 until 1996, when the three were restored and Cardiganshire took the name Ceredigion the next day. The old name lives on in public services such as Dyfed-Powys Police.

Is anyone on the site near Aberystwyth?

Yes. Aberystwyth is one of the places our members in and around Dyfed come from, along with Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff. Ceredigion's coastal strip is narrow, so distances stack up fast: set yours to match how far you'll actually travel.
