Pembroke takes its name from the Welsh Penfro, built from pen, meaning head or end, and bro, meaning region or land. The name has been read as Land's End, or as headland, and in Welsh its neighbour Pembroke Dock is Doc Penfro.

The town has about 7,500 people and history to spare: town walls, a number of historic buildings and Pembroke Castle, where a future king of England was born. It is not the county town, though. That is Haverfordwest, and Pembroke Dock next door has more people. So Pembroke is a compact old town with bigger neighbours close by, and for casual sex that means a match from over the way is a short hop, while the castle gives the pair of you an easy landmark to aim for.

Meet by the walls, or hop to Pembroke Dock

Pembroke Dock, on the banks of the Cleddau, is under two miles away, Tenby about nine and Kilgetty a shade over, with Clarbeston Road twelve miles off. In a town of 7,500 you may well know a face or two, which is a fair reason to meet someone from a few miles away. Crymych is nearly 24 miles off, and Kidwelly, Carmarthen and Llanelli are between 26 and 32, for anyone prepared to make an evening of the drive.
