Salisbury Hookups: Salisbury Women Want to Meet

Grown-up hookups where three rivers meet, eight miles from Stonehenge.

Sex in Salisbury, without the speed dating

Salisbury sends us three kinds of search: speed dating for grown-ups, dating in Salisbury and, more bluntly, sex in Salisbury. This page is for the third, and for anyone who'd rather skip the name badges and the three-minute bell.

The first cathedral stood at Old Sarum, north of today's city. Its replacement went up near the meeting of three rivers, the Avon, the Nadder and the Bourne, and the city grew around it, taking its charter in 1227 as New Sarum, still the official name until 2009. About 42,000 people live in the city itself, more once you count the villages it has absorbed. It sits near the southern edge of Salisbury Plain, and Stonehenge is eight miles to the north-west.

For a hookup, Salisbury's strength is that it's small but well connected. The station links the West of England Line with the Wessex Main Line, Southampton is 20 miles away and London 78, and the city sits roughly halfway between Exeter and London, so meeting someone coming in is as easy as heading out.

Grown-up Salisbury: the 35 to 44s lead

Two in three of our members within 25 miles of Salisbury are aged 25 to 44, and the 35 to 44s alone make up well over a third.

Only about one in ten is under 25, against more than a quarter across the site as a whole, which suits anyone who searched for something grown-up. About three in ten are women. Within 25 miles they come from Andover and Westbury, from Ringwood and Bournemouth, and from Southampton and Eastleigh.

Salisbury first dates, from the market to the river

Around the Market Place

There has been a charter market here since 1227, and it still runs every Tuesday and Saturday. The Poultry Cross, the only survivor of four medieval market crosses, is an easy landmark to meet by, and the galleries in the city centre, including the Young Gallery in the library, give you somewhere to wander after the first coffee.

By the water

The city's rivers were redirected to feed its public gardens, and in summer Queen Elizabeth Gardens is where people head: the water there is shallow and slow enough to paddle in. In April there's the St George's Day pageant, a tradition claimed to go back to the 13th century.

If you'd rather have a crowd around you, Salisbury FC play at their stadium on the northern edge of the city. Wherever you go, meet in public and let a friend know your plans. Our safety page shows how to block or report anyone who crosses a line.

Amesbury, Andover and Southampton within twenty miles

Wilton, the neighbouring town, falls inside the wider urban zone the census draws round Salisbury, and Amesbury, about seven miles away, is the closest town with a page of its own. Fordingbridge is under ten miles off, Romsey fourteen, Ringwood fifteen and a half and Andover sixteen, with Shaftesbury and Warminster at eighteen and nineteen. Southampton, the nearest big city, is about twenty, and Bath about 32.

Salisbury hookups, frankly

Are the members near Salisbury older than average?

A little, yes. The 35 to 44s are the largest group within 25 miles of the city and the 25 to 34s come next, while only about one in ten is under 25. If you're in your thirties or forties, you're right in the middle of it.

Do Southampton and Bournemouth count as near Salisbury?

For our figures they do. Southampton and Bournemouth both feature among the towns our members near Salisbury come from, alongside Ringwood, Eastleigh and Andover. Southampton is only about 20 miles away, so an evening there is simple to arrange.

Where can we meet in Salisbury without it feeling like a date?

Market day is good cover: a Tuesday or a Saturday, around the Poultry Cross. In summer, a walk in Queen Elizabeth Gardens is just as low-key.
