Anglers know Romsey for the River Test and its trout. Everyone else knows it by the Abbey, the largest parish church in Hampshire, which towers over the middle of town, and by a centre that was opened up to pedestrians in 2019, when the roundabout around the statue that has stood there since 1857 was taken away. Look a little further and there's a 13th-century hunting lodge, an 18th-century coaching inn and a 19th-century corn exchange.

Nearly 15,000 people live in the parish, which makes it one of the main towns in the Test Valley. It sits seven miles north-west of Southampton and eleven from Winchester, and the eastern edge of the New Forest is just over three miles away. A smallish town with a city next door suits casual sex nicely: enough choice close by, and enough distance from your own street when you want it.
