A small city with landmarks you can't miss
Armagh is one of the few cities in the world with two cathedrals of the same name, so "meet me at the cathedral" needs a follow-up question.
It is the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, and for a title that grand it is a small city: it got city status in 1994 and Lord Mayoralty status in 2012, and it counted 16,310 people at the 2021 census. The Church of Ireland cathedral dates back to around the year 445, while the Catholic one went up in the second half of the 19th century with twin spires 64 metres high. Both stand on hills, so wear shoes you can climb in. Beyond them lie a Georgian area of recognised heritage importance, an observatory whose weather records go back to 1794 and an old gaol begun in 1780: plenty of landmarks to point to when you are arranging to meet someone. In ancient times, nearby Navan Fort was a ceremonial site and one of the great royal capitals of Gaelic Ireland.

Armagh has a string of towns within an easy drive, which makes meeting halfway simple. Dungannon is about eleven miles away, Craigavon thirteen and Banbridge fifteen, with Newry just under eighteen.
