Warwickshire used to be a lot bigger. Its old boundary took in Coventry, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and the centre of Birmingham. Those now lie outside it, and what's left is a largely rural, flat stretch of the Midlands running 56 miles from top to bottom: at the northern tip you're only three miles short of Derbyshire, while the far south takes in part of the Cotswolds. With the cities gone, the largest place is Nuneaton.
Most of the county's 632,000 or so people live in the north and centre. Up north and out east are the market towns that industrialised in the 1800s on coal, textiles, engineering and cement: Atherstone, Bedworth, Coleshill, Nuneaton and Rugby. In the middle, Warwick and Leamington Spa sit right next to each other, and Stratford-upon-Avon is down in the south-west, where the Avon flows through. Watling Street, the old Roman road, once marked the frontier between Mercia and the Danelaw here.
Late twenties, early thirties: the Warwickshire sweet spot
The 25 to 34s are the largest group among our members in and around Warwickshire, at a little over four in ten.
