Teignmouth Hookups: Teignmouth Women Want to Meet

Seaside hookups on the Teign, from the pier to the Back Beach.

Seaside hookups on the Teign estuary

Come in from the sea and the first thing you see of Teignmouth is The Ness, the red sandstone headland on the Shaldon side of the river. The town faces it from the north bank of the Teign, 12 miles south of Exeter, and has been a working port since the 13th century; the docks still handle clay, timber and grain. It grew from a fishing port in the Newfoundland cod trade into a fashionable Georgian resort, and the railway arrived in 1846.

About 15,000 people live here, and holidaymakers, day-trippers above all, still come in good numbers. So summer brings new faces to the front, while the rest of the year you're in a small town where it pays to be discreet: your profile shows Teignmouth as your nearest town, never your street. Dartmoor's rain shadow helps your social life too. Teignmouth runs about three degrees warmer than Princetown up on the moor and gets less than half its rain.

The easiest first meetings are on or near the water:

  • Teignmouth Pier
  • The Back Beach
  • The Lido
  • Carnival week
  • The Templer Way

The pier has its amusement arcade and rides. The Back Beach wraps round the spit on the estuary side, looking over the moorings and up the estuary to Dartmoor, and the Lido on the seafront is a heated open-air pool. Carnival takes the last week of July, with the procession on the Thursday. And if a long walk is your idea of a date, the Templer Way runs 18 miles from Haytor down to Shaldon, following the old granite tramway and canal.

An older, even mix around Teignmouth

Around Teignmouth the ages are unusually level. Within 60 miles of the town, no age band holds much less than a sixth or much more than a fifth of our members, which leaves four in ten aged 45 or over: a more grown-up crowd than the site as a whole, where the under-35s are the majority. If you're in your forties or fifties, you're in good company here rather than the odd one out. About one in five is a woman. The circle stretches to Torquay and Plymouth, east to Dorchester and Yeovil, north to Weston-super-Mare and across the Bristol Channel to Barry.

Hookups a few miles either side of Teignmouth

Shaldon, on the opposite bank under The Ness, is the closest neighbour of all, and the next towns along the coast and inland are barely further. Dawlish is under three miles up the coast and Newton Abbot about five, with Torquay six, Exmouth a little over six and Paignton eight. Brixham is ten and a half and Totnes eleven. Exeter, twelve miles north, is the nearest city and the easy choice when you'd rather meet somewhere you're less likely to be recognised.

Teignmouth hookups: worth knowing

Is Teignmouth any good for hookups out of season?

Summer brings the day-trippers and carnival week at the end of July, but the winters are mild, with less frost and snow than inland, so a walk along the front or the Back Beach still works in February. Out of season, widening your distance to take in Torquay and Exeter keeps the options open.

Is Torquay or Exeter close enough for a hookup?

Yes. Torquay, about six miles away, is one of the towns our members near Teignmouth come from, and Exeter is twelve miles north. Either makes a neutral meeting point if you'd rather not be seen on your own seafront.

Will people in Teignmouth know I'm on a hookup site?

Your profile shows a username and Teignmouth as your nearest town, not your name, email or address. Choose photos you'd be happy for a neighbour to see, and if someone won't take the hint, block them.
