Penrhyndeudraeth means "peninsula with two beaches", and it is sometimes simply called Penrhyn.

The small town stands near the mouth of the River Dwyryd on the A487, nearly three miles east of Porthmadog. It had 2,150 people at the 2011 census, up from 2,031 ten years earlier, and its community also takes in the villages of Minffordd and Portmeirion.

Porthmadog is the next town along, near enough that one evening can take in both. For a hookup, that is the useful way to see Penrhyn: a small base with a bigger neighbour under three miles off.

Porthmadog is next door, the rest is a day out

Porthmadog is only 2.7 miles away, so it is the obvious place to meet, and Penrhyndeudraeth itself stands on the A487. After that comes a gap: Talybont, the next nearest town with a page of its own, is about eleven miles off, with Dolgellau about 15 and Betws-y-Coed, in Conwy, about 15 and a half. So a hookup from Penrhyn is either next door or a proper outing, the sort of trip you make for someone you have already talked to for a while.
