Exeter is 21 miles east, Plymouth 26 miles south and Barnstaple 24 miles north. Okehampton sits in the middle of the three, right on the northern edge of Dartmoor.

The 2021 census counted about 7,300 people in this West Devon town. At that size a new face gets noticed, and so does a familiar one turning up somewhere unexpected, so it's no bad idea to set your search a few miles wider than the town itself. North Tawton is the nearest, a little over six miles away, and Chulmleigh about 13. Tavistock is about 14 and a half miles, Holsworthy and Great Torrington about 16 each. Over the border in Cornwall, Launceston is about 17 miles and Callington about 21. And if you'd both rather blend into a crowd, Exeter is a shade under 21 miles away.
