Lydney Hookups: Lydney Women Want to Meet

Casual fun on the Forest of Dean side of the Severn, starting in Lydney.

Casual sex in Lydney, on the Forest side of the Severn

Until 1960 a railway bridge crossed the Severn just north of Lydney, from Purton over to Sharpness on the eastern bank. That year a pair of oil tanker barges hit one of its piers and brought down two girders, and it was never put back. Plans to restore the link have come and gone, so from this town of about 10,000 on the river's west bank, the far shore is a lot nearer on the map than on the road.

Lydney sits in the Forest of Dean district, 16 miles south-west of Gloucester, and the A48 has bypassed it since 1995. It has a harbour, cut when the Lydney Canal was built and once busy shipping the Forest's timber, coal and iron. Lydney Park's gardens hold a Roman temple to Nodens, the rugby club plays at Regentsholme, and the cricket club has been going since 1862.

More women and more over-55s around Lydney

Compared with the site as a whole, the 25-mile circle around Lydney has more of both. Women make up four in ten of the members in it, where the national figure is nearer three in ten, and one in five is 55 or over, more than double the share site-wide. Under-25s are scarcer, about one in eight, while the middle years, 25 to 44, make up more than half. They come from Gloucester and Brockworth, Tewkesbury, Chepstow and Tutshill, and Bristol, Avonmouth and Wolvesnewton.

Where a Lydney first date can start

The harbour
Pleasure boats now moor where the Forest's coal and iron once went out by ship. It's open and easy to find, which is all a first hello needs.
Lydney Park gardens
A Roman temple in the grounds hands you a ready-made talking point for a daytime meet, whenever the gardens are open.
The railway
The station is on the Gloucester to Newport line, and the Dean Forest Railway links it with the town centre, so a match from along the line can reach you without a car.

On the map, Berkeley is under four miles away, but it's over the river, so check the route before you suggest popping across. Chepstow is under nine miles off and Monmouth about ten. Read our hookup safety tips before you head out.
