Most people call it "the Lothians", plural, and with good reason. The old province was split into three counties, Midlothian, East Lothian and West Lothian, and between them they cover the ground from the southern shore of the Firth of Forth to the Lammermuir and Moorfoot hills, with Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, at the heart of it all.
