Sea front or lake: where Hornsea hookups begin

Hornsea has a natural lake, Hornsea Mere, in the same parish as its sea front promenade, so a first walk can choose between the sea and the lake. The Hull and Hornsea Railway reached the town in 1864 and it grew through the Victorian era. It still works as a coastal resort, with large caravan sites to the north and south and around 8,400 people living in the town itself.

If you're suggesting a meeting place, the landmarks are easy to name: the promenade, the medieval church of St Nicholas, Bettison's Folly and the Mere itself. There is history to talk about too. The Mere was briefly a seaplane base in the First World War, and in the Second World War the town and its beach were heavily fortified against invasion. These days tourism and small-scale manufacturing carry the economy, and the Hollis Recreation Ground is where the town's cricket, rugby and football clubs all play. A town with this much to point at isn't short of first-date ideas.
