Downpatrick Hookups: Downpatrick Women Want to Meet

Meet someone new in Down's county town, out on the Lecale peninsula.

Downpatrick hookups start with the car keys

Since its railway station closed in 1950, Downpatrick has had no rail service, so getting anywhere from here means the road. The A7 heads for Saintfield and Belfast, the A25 for Newry and on to Dublin, the A2 follows the coast, and Ulsterbus services leave from the bus station. That matters for sex in Downpatrick more than you might think: chances are someone's driving or someone's catching a bus, so settle the logistics before the flirting gets serious.

It's an old town to be making new plans in. In the Middle Ages the Dál Fiatach, the dynasty that ruled the Ulaid, had their capital here. Today it's Down's county town and a joint base for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, with about 11,500 people at the 2021 census, out on the Lecale peninsula some 21 miles south of Belfast.

Plenty of under-35s, and some silver foxes

For a town of Downpatrick's size, the useful picture is the national one, so the bars below show the ages of all our members across the UK. More than half are under 35, and nearly one in ten is 55 or older. The men lean young, with 18 to 24 their biggest single group at a little over a third, yet about one man in eight is 55 or over. For every ten members, about three are women. Tell the site the ages and the gender you're after, and those are the people your daily suggestions put in front of you.

Good first moves in Downpatrick

A first meeting goes easier with something to do, and the town has a few options that keep things public.

A night at the Down Arts Centre
The old Town Hall now runs as an events venue. A show hands you a topic for later, and when it ends there's an easy point to call it a night or suggest one more drink.
An hour in Down County Museum
You'll find it in English Street, on the Mall, in the building that used to be the county gaol, which is a conversation starter if ever there was one.
A walk out to Ballynoe
The stone circle, more than 50 upright stones set close together around a mound, lies about two and a half miles south of town, at the end of a long path that leaves the main road. It's a walk rather than a crowd, so keep it for a second meeting, once you know each other.

Whatever you choose, tell a friend where you'll be and have your way home sorted. If anyone turns pushy, block them; the safety page explains how that and reporting work.

Widen the net past Downpatrick

A town of 11,500 only goes so far, so it pays to look beyond it. Newcastle is about ten miles away, Lisburn under 19, and Belfast a little over 20 up the A7, with Banbridge and Bangor both around 23. For the rest of the county, see our County Down page. Distance already shapes the matches you're sent each day, and with VIP you can search one town by name and set a distance around it.

Downpatrick, asked and answered

Will I find anyone in a town as small as Downpatrick?

With about 11,500 people here, your nearest match may live a few miles out rather than round the corner. Be open to Newcastle, Lisburn or Belfast and you're looking at a far bigger area, and your matches factor in how far away each person is.

How do I get to a hookup from Downpatrick without a car?

By bus. The town has no rail service, but there are Ulsterbus buses from the bus station in town. Check the last bus home before you go, or agree that whoever has the car does the travelling.
