Strathclyde Hookups: Strathclyde Women Want to Meet

Glasgow, the Clyde and the coast: hook ups for adults across the old region.

Half of Scotland, and your next hookup somewhere in it

Strathclyde stopped being a council in 1996, but the name never really left: the transport body still goes by SPT, and the ZoneCard ticket it ran is still in use.

As a council area it held more than two and a half million people, half the population of Scotland, across 19 districts. It ran down the west coast from the Highlands to the Southern Uplands, took in Argyll and some of the Inner Hebrides, and had the country's largest urban area at its centre. The name means the valley of the River Clyde, and it was borrowed from an early medieval kingdom based at Govan.

For hooking up, the old map is a handy one. Glasgow, in the middle of it, is one of the five largest areas for members on the whole of HookUps.co.uk, and the towns around it are close enough to share a night out. Wherever you live between the Clyde and the Ayrshire towns, your own town probably has a page, and every one of them is listed further down.

Two in five are women in and around Strathclyde

That share of women is well above the three in ten we see UK-wide. Our members around the old region also lean towards the middle years: the 35 to 44s are the largest single group at just under a third, the 25 to 34s are close behind, and together they make up six in ten. About one in six has passed 55, a bigger slice than either the under-25s or the 45 to 54s, who are around one in ten each. They come from Glasgow and Finnieston, Paisley, Cambuslang, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Greenock and Kilmarnock.

Meet in the city or meet halfway

Glasgow and Paisley

Glasgow is the obvious place for a first drink. Its subway is the third-oldest underground system in the world, and a ZoneCard still lets you mix more than one kind of transport on a single ticket. Paisley is only a couple of miles from the middle of the old region.

Along the Clyde and beyond

Dumbarton is about nine miles from the middle of the region, and Port Glasgow and Greenock are both within 16. Further out, Largs, Irvine, Lanark, Dunoon, Campbeltown and the Isle of Arran have pages of their own.

Keep the first meeting somewhere public, share your plans with a friend, and know how you're getting home before you go out. Our safety page has the rest.
