Newport Hookups: Newport Women Want to Meet

Hook up in Newport, from the old port to Caerleon, with Cardiff about eleven miles down the road.

Newport swallowed a Roman town and kept right on growing

Newport, Casnewydd in Welsh, has a Roman town inside it.

Caerleon, the Roman settlement just upstream on the Usk, was eventually outgrown by the port that grew up round the Normans' Newport Castle, near where the river meets the Severn Estuary. Newport got its first charter in 1314, and in the 19th century the port became a major hub for coal from the eastern South Wales Valleys. For a time it shipped more of it than any other port in Wales, until Cardiff overtook it in the middle of the 1800s. Not bad for a town that began as a castle on a river.

These days the headline is people. Between the 2011 and 2021 censuses the population rose from about 145,700 to nearly 160,000, the biggest jump of any council area in Wales, and Newport ranks sixth for population among them. More people means more chances of finding someone on your wavelength.

Newport peaks at 35 to 44, and women make up over a third

In the 25 miles around Newport the 35 to 44 band leads, at nearly three in ten of our members, against about one in five across the whole site. The 25 to 34s come in just over a quarter and the 18 to 24s just under, so the numbers climb band by band up to the 35 to 44s. Put the 25 to 34s and the 35 to 44s together and they make up over half the circle, while around a quarter of members are 45 or older. Women are over a third of it, well above their share across the site.

With a spread this even, the age range you set makes a real difference to who turns up in your daily matches. Those members come from Cardiff and Barry, Chepstow, Marshfield and Wolvesnewton, and over the border from Weston-super-Mare, Avonmouth and Bristol.

A port at one end, a Roman town at the other

Newport covers more ground than its centre. It stretches from the old port near the estuary to Caerleon just upstream, so settle on a street corner or a landmark you can both find rather than a district name. Cardiff is only about eleven miles off, and the two sit in the same Capital Region, so a match in either is a short run for the other.

Choose somewhere public, text a friend where you are heading and keep the way home in your own hands. If you want the long version, the hookup safety tips are the place to start.

Cwmbran, Caldicot and Cardiff are all within a dozen miles

Cwmbran is under five miles away, Caldicot a little over ten and Cardiff just under eleven. Pontypool and Caerphilly fall in between, and Clevedon, Portishead and Penarth are all twelve or thirteen miles out, the first two over the border in North Somerset. Fixing a date in Newport, Cardiff or Caerleon

Should we meet in Newport or Cardiff?

Whichever is fairer. Cardiff is about eleven miles from Newport, so if you live in different cities you can meet in the middle or take turns travelling. Members from Cardiff and Barry are both in our figures for the area.

Is Caerleon part of Newport?

It is. The Roman settlement just upstream on the Usk has been taken into the city, which is why "in Newport" can cover a lot of ground. Fix an exact place to meet and you'll avoid a wasted trip.

Do people from Bristol use the site around Newport?

Yes. Bristol, Avonmouth and Weston-super-Mare all feature among the places our members within 25 miles come from. Clevedon and Portishead, in North Somerset, are only about twelve miles from Newport, so a match there is a manageable trip.
