Hookups in Helston, home of the Furry Dance
Helston is known above all for the Furry Dance, which the people who live here call the Flora Dance, an annual custom said to go back to medieval times. The song linked to it, The Floral Dance, was written in 1911, and the Hal-an-Tow is reputed to be Celtic in origin. The town marked 800 years since its charter in 2001, and it was a stannary and cattle market town long before anyone thought of it as a place for hooking up.
Some 11,600 people live in the parish, on the River Cober at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula, in the most southerly town on the island of Great Britain. Downstream the river runs into Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest natural lake, which a shingle bar cut off from the sea. In a place this size the profile that catches your eye may well belong to someone you have passed in the street, which is where usernames earn their keep. A username takes the place of your real name, and your profile gives a nearest town instead of an address.

No trains to Helston, so the road decides where you meet
The branch railway closed in the early 1960s and the nearest station is now Redruth, on the Cornish Main Line, so a first meeting probably involves a drive. The A394 runs west to Penzance and north-east to Penryn, where it joins the A39 for Falmouth and Truro. Camborne is 7.7 miles away, Falmouth 9.5 and Penzance 11.9, so you can usually find a town roughly between you and a match. Newquay, 23.3 miles off, is there for the weekends.
Pick somewhere with other people about, tell a friend which town you are heading to and settle who is driving home before the evening starts. Should a chat go wrong, blocking is there, and so is reporting; the safety page explains both.
