Barnet first dates, from market day to match day

Barnet has been seeing strangers through for centuries. In the coaching days, 150 stagecoaches a day came through on the Great North Road, which climbs Barnet Hill; the A1 now takes that traffic round the west of town on the Barnet Bypass. The old road through the centre is still where to meet: the market that gave Chipping Barnet its name, the High Street at the top of the hill, and the church tower as a landmark you'll struggle to miss. High Barnet station is close to Barnet Hill, so whoever is travelling has an easy way in.
