Wendover grew up at a crossroads. The main road over the Chilterns between London and Aylesbury crosses the old road along the foot of the hills right here, and the town has been trading on that spot for a long time: it has held a market charter since 1464, and the market still runs every week.
The parish is home to about 7,400 people. Beyond the town it's mostly arable farmland, with a scattering of hamlets up in the hills. Aylesbury is five miles to the north-west and London 35 miles to the south-east.
