Until 1939 you could take a ferry from Tayport across the Firth of Tay to Broughty Ferry, a suburb of Dundee. The boats have gone, but the town's other name, Ferry-Port-on-Craig, still remembers them, and crossing the water to meet someone is hardly a new idea here.

Fife one way, Dundee and Angus the other

Dundee is under four miles from Tayport, Carnoustie nearly eight and St. Andrews a little over eight. Which one suits depends on where your match lives. Stay on the Fife side and St. Andrews, Leven (about 18 miles) and Glenrothes (about 21) are your options; head over to Dundee and the Angus towns and you have Carnoustie, Forfar and Arbroath all within 14 miles, with Brechin a little beyond 21.
