Over the Tay to Fife, or out into Angus

Look across the water and Tayport, in Fife, is under four miles away, with St Andrews about eleven. Head into Angus instead and Carnoustie is ten and a half miles off, Forfar twelve and a half and Arbroath about sixteen. Perth sits a little over 18 miles away, Leven and Glenrothes around 19 and 20, and Edinburgh 36, near enough for a night out if the right person lives there.
