Preston Hookups: Preston Women Want to Meet

No-strings fun for adults in Preston, from Fishergate down to the Ribble.

Proud Preston, ready when you are

People were already calling it Proud Preston in the early 1700s, when one visitor wrote of a pretty town with gentry to spare. It became England's 50th city in 2002 and is the administrative centre of Lancashire, sitting on the north bank of the River Ribble with the Forest of Bowland behind it to the north-east and the Fylde to the west. The name comes from the Old English for a priest's settlement, the charter that made it a market town dates from 1179, and the Obelisk on the Market Square was first put up for the Guild celebration of 1782.

About 148,000 people lived in the city at the 2021 census and more than 313,000 in its built-up area. The economy has moved from a medieval market town to textiles and, more recently, to teaching and research, and the University of Lancashire is now one of the largest employers in the city. As the member figures below show, the people looking for sex in Preston are a young crowd.

First drinks on Fishergate and Friargate

Fishergate and Friargate are the main streets, lined with shops, bars and restaurants, with more tucked down the side streets off them, so a first meeting has somewhere to go next if it's going well and an easy exit if it isn't.

For something different, the old fish market now houses the Box Market, upgraded shipping containers where traders sell food and drink, and the old covered market has become the new Market Hall. The Harris Museum, the Guild Hall, the Obelisk and the Georgian buildings of Winckley Square are landmarks anyone in Preston can find, so any of them makes a simple meeting point.

Across the Ribble and out to the Fylde

The Ribble marks Preston's southern edge, but the urban area doesn't stop there: the south bank belongs to it too, run by its own borough, South Ribble. Penwortham is barely a mile and a half away, Longridge about six and a half and Chorley under nine, with Blackburn, Garstang, Darwen and Adlington all within about eleven. Further out, Blackpool is 15 miles west, Liverpool 26 and Manchester 27, close enough for a match in any of them to meet you halfway.

Preston, before the first drink

Is the Box Market a good spot for a first date?

It makes an easy one. Traders sell food and drink from converted shipping containers in the old fish market, so you can eat, talk and leave when you like. If it goes well, Friargate and Fishergate are the obvious next stop.

Can I meet someone from Blackpool or Manchester?

Yes. Blackpool is 15 miles west and Manchester about 27 to the south-east, and our members within 25 miles of Preston also come from Bolton, Leyland and Southport. For a particular route, VIP search lets you choose a city and a distance.

My match is coming in by bus. Where do we meet?

Preston bus station is hard to miss: the modern building was once on a world list of sites at risk of demolition and is now Grade II listed. Meet there, then pick somewhere for a drink on the high streets rather than somewhere quiet.
