Lyme Regis Hookups: Lyme Regis Women Want to Meet

Seaside flings and no-strings fun on the Dorset and Devon border.

Lyme Regis hookups where Dorset meets Devon

Fossils are what Lyme Regis is known for. They're found in the cliffs and on the beaches along this part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, while the old harbour wall called the Cobb has had parts in two classic novels and a 1981 film shot partly in the town. It's sometimes called the Pearl of Dorset, and on a clear evening by the water you'll see why.

It's also small. About 3,700 people lived here at the 2021 census, in a town that grew up around the mouth of the River Lym on Lyme Bay, so a familiar face is never far away. The county line helps. Devon starts at the edge of town, which means the person you hook up with can just as easily come from over the border, and nobody at home has to hear about it.

Matches from Plymouth round to Bournemouth

Within 60 miles of Lyme Regis, about one member in four is a woman, and no single age group runs the show.

Roughly a quarter are 18 to 24, a quarter 25 to 34 and a quarter 35 to 44, leaving about three in ten who are 45 or older. Sitting on the border stretches that circle a long way in both directions: Plymouth and Teignmouth on the Devon side, Bournemouth and Ringwood to the east, and Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Cardiff to the north.

Meet off the bus, or at Axminster station

Lyme lost its railway in 1965, so a first meeting takes a little more planning than it would in a bigger town. Three ways to make it work:

The train
The nearest station is in Axminster, about six miles inland, with services to London Waterloo, Salisbury and Exeter St Davids. If your match is coming down the line, meet them off the train there.
The bus
Routes out of Lyme run to Axminster station, Beer, Seaton, Bridport and Weymouth, so a drink in Seaton or Bridport needs no car and no lift from a stranger.
On foot
Three footpaths share the lower reaches of the Lym, and the restored Town Mill, a watermill dating from 1340 that still produces flour, is an easy landmark to meet by.

Whichever way you arrive, the rule for a first meeting is the same: somewhere with other people about, a mate who knows the plan, and a quick read of our hookup safety tips beforehand.
