Today it's a market town of about 11,600 people on the River Thames in South Oxfordshire, though historically it belonged to Berkshire. Reading is 12 miles south, Oxford 13 miles north and Henley-on-Thames 11 miles to the south-east, so a small town needn't mean a small choice.
