Loughborough has the UK's only bell foundry, a university renowned for sport, and a footnote in travel history: in 1841 it was the destination of the first package tour, a trip for a temperance group from Leicester. A market town in Leicestershire's Charnwood borough, second only to Leicester in the county, it has about 65,000 people in its built-up area.
The shopping heart of town is the pedestrianised Market Place and Market Street, where several original art deco buildings survive.
