Keynsham hookups with two cities to choose from
Somerdale, the Cadbury's chocolate factory, opened in Keynsham in 1935 and became one of the town's big employers. The chocolate belongs to its past now, but Keynsham's real advantage hasn't moved an inch: it sits on the A4 that joins Bristol and Bath, right by the south-eastern edge of the city.
It's an old place, too. Romans built here, at least two of their villas have been dug up, and another 15 buildings have been detected beneath the Keynsham Hams. The medieval town grew up around an abbey founded in about 1170, where the River Chew runs into the Avon, and it knows about floods: the Chew Stoke flood of 1968 swamped large parts of it. About 19,600 people live in the parish now.
For a hookup, though, the geography is what counts. Two cities sit within seven miles, with a town of your own in between where things can stay low-key.

- Close to home. Memorial Park, where the annual town festival is held, is a relaxed daytime place to meet and find out whether there's a spark.
- Into the city. Bristol is about five miles along the A4, with all the choice a city brings.
- Or the other way. Bath is about six and a half miles in the opposite direction, handy when your match lives on that side.
