Canvey Island Hookups: Canvey Island Women Want to Meet

Island hookups on Canvey, with the mainland a bridge away

Canvey Island is properly an island.

It sits in the Thames Estuary, in the Castle Point district of Essex, and a network of creeks cuts it off from the rest of south Essex while bridges stitch it back on. Around 38,000 people live on its seven square miles, which lie below sea level behind two miles of concrete sea wall.

People have lived here since the Roman conquest, but the island was mainly farmland until the 20th century, when it became the fastest-growing seaside resort in Britain between 1911 and 1951. There is an industrial side as well, because the world's first ship-borne delivery of liquefied natural gas arrived here. The practical upshot is simple: anyone coming from the mainland has a bridge to cross, so say who's travelling before you settle on a place.

Over the bridge to Hadleigh, Leigh or Southend

Cross to Hadleigh, two and a half miles off, or Leigh-on-Sea, just over three, and you have an easy first drink with only a bridge to think about. Southend-on-Sea, under six miles away, is there if you'd rather go further afield.

A seaside island suggests a certain kind of first meeting, but keep the first one simple: somewhere public, a friend who knows where you are, and a clear idea of how each of you gets home. Getting off the island is the part of the evening that needs agreeing in advance. The safety page explains how to block or report anyone from inside the site.
