Old county town, new faces: hookups in Brecon
Brecon lost its title as county town when Powys was formed, but it kept the importance.
Welsh speakers call it Aberhonddu, and it was historically known as Brecknock. Its old county was Brecknockshire, also written Breconshire. The town grew from about 5,700 people in 1841 to 7,900 in 2001 and 8,250 at the 2011 census, and it is the third-largest town in Powys after Newtown and Ystradgynlais. It sits just north of the Brecon Beacons but inside the national park, so the hills are on your doorstep when a second date needs somewhere to walk to.
As an important local centre, Brecon makes an easy answer to "where shall we meet?" when your match lives somewhere smaller.
